In 2011, a group of Finnish librarians seeking innovative ways for professionals to connect created Cycling for Libraries. This international cycling conference was an immediate success.
After the Copenhagen–Berlin route in 2011 and the Baltic States in 2012, around 100 participants concluded the 2013 tour from Amsterdam to Brussels with a reception at the European Parliament.
In 2014, the event adopted the name Cyclo-biblio. A French association was then created to continue advocacy efforts for libraries in France and French-speaking countries. That year’s tour took place between Montpellier and Lyon, where the 80th Congress of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA), bringing together 4,000 information professionals, was being held.
Â
In 2015, Cyclo-biblio continued its local efforts in France, bringing together over 50 librarians for a tour from Basel to Strasbourg, where the 61st Congress of the French Librarians' Association (ABF), a partner of the event, was held.

In 2016, Cyclo-biblio led 50 librarians betweenToulouse and Bordeaux and in 2017, 70 librarians around the Lake of Geneva.

Â
Every year since, 50 Librarians rode from Angers to La Rochelle (2018), from Le Havre to Paris (2019); from Nancy to Metz (2022), from Lille to Dunkerque (2023) and from Lyon to Avignon (2024).
Â
Most of these itineraries were meant to go to the congress of the Association des Bibliothécaires de France, which has supported the project from the outset, in order to echo the concerns of professionals.
