Cyclo-biblio is a cycling conference for librarians and library fans. It is politically independent.
Cyclo-biblio is a promotional campaign aimed at highlighting the fundamental role of libraries in today’s society.
This is known as advocacy or plaidoyer in French.
Cyclo-biblio encourages the libraries visited along the route to invite local officials to show their support for libraries, as well as local and regional media to help spread the message to the public. The role of media—TV, radio, newspapers, and web platforms—is crucial. Every effort is made to maximize the event’s visibility.
By stepping outside of their libraries, which are sometimes seen as secluded or closed spaces, professionals aim to draw attention to their societal roles, as well as to the pressures and threats facing library systems, whether in the form of budget cuts, staff reductions, or censorship of acquisitions. They also seek to remind everyone how important these spaces are for promoting access to knowledge and information, and how essential they are to the exercise of citizenship.

As an innovative and international professional event, Cyclo-biblio is part of the continuing education pathway for information professionals.
